Montezuma I: Evony Newest Debuff Sub City General

Evony's General Montezuma I is a new debuff general released during the 2025 Thanksgiving events. He is well-suited to serve as a subordinate city mayor. Montezuma I can inflict significant debuffs on enemy ranged troops and siege machines. To learn more about his attributes, how to obtain him, and tips for using him effectively, read this guide.

The Intro of Montezuma I

Montezuma I, son of Emperor Huitzilihuitl, rose to prominence after his elder brother's assassination. He supported his uncle Itzcoatl’s claim to the throne and joined campaigns that unified the Aztec realm.

After Itzcoatl's death, Montezuma became Huey Tlatoani (Great Speaker), symbolizing his authority over the Mexica and his role as the voice of all peoples under Aztec rule. Early in his reign, he expanded the empire eastward to the Gulf of Mexico. However, drought, frost, and locusts struck, seen as signs of divine wrath.

To restore balance, Montezuma led the Flower Wars against Tlaxcala and its allies, bringing captives and spoils back to Tenochtitlan. Beyond warfare, he transformed the city with vast dual aqueducts, bringing fresh spring water to sustain the greatest city of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.

How to Acquire General Montezuma I?

  1. King's Party Event

The fastest and most direct way to obtain this general is through the King's Party event. During the 2025 Thanksgiving events, you can claim the general token of Montezuma I at party cake Lv10. However, this method is expensive because you need to purchase packages to earn basic gems and then upgrade your cake level during the event period. Spending a considerable amount of money within a limited time is not affordable for some players, so they need to consider the following two methods.

  1. All-Star Shop

Use 100 Galaxy Coins to redeem the Military Strategist Historic General Chest, and the general is in the chest.

Open the chest, and you can select a general's exclusive token in the chest.

This chest is a glorious item in the shop, and it is provided only once.

You can get the Galaxy Coin from All-Star battlefield(s) and special events, such as Star Goddess's Box.

  1. Storm Shop

You need to participate in the Storm Ruins battlefield to earn 10,000 Storm Coins. Then, exchange them for the Military Strategist Historic General Chest in the Storm Shop. This chest has one redemption opportunity per season in the shop.

Debuff General Comparison

We found that Montezuma I significantly weakens enemy archers and siege machines, so we compared him to the strongest siege debuff general recently - Zhu Di and ranged debuff general - Zizka.

By comparison, we can draw the following conclusions:

For enemy archers (ranged troops):

  • Montezuma I provides the strongest reduction in their attack power, but his debuff on HP and defense is not as significant as Zizka's.

For enemy siege machines:

  • Zhu Di has a stronger debuff on their attack, but the reduction in HP and defense is not as strong as Montezuma I's.

Debuffs on other enemy unit types (ground & mounted troops):

  • Montezuma I also applies debuffs to enemy infantry and cavalry, reducing both types equally, with a slightly stronger effect on their defense.
  • Zhu Di significantly reduces the attack, defense, and HP of enemy infantry, and his debuff on enemy cavalry's defense is also notable.
  • Zizka has fewer debuff effects on other unit types, mainly targeting the attack power of infantry.

Recommended Sub-city Skill Books:

  • Training Speed: Increases troop training speed in the sub-city when the general is the mayor.
  • Rebirth: Increases the death-to-survival rate of sub-city troops when the general is the mayor.
  • Gold Production: Boosts gold production speed in the sub-city when the general is the mayor.

We do not recommend skill books that increase troop training capacity in the sub-city or enlarge march size.
